Galveston Flavor
One Bite at a Time
Local restaurants. Island stories. Relaxed walking tours through the historic heart of Galveston.
Born from a love of food, history, and Galveston
Taste of the Strand began in 2017 after founder Karen Vaden experienced a food tour while visiting New Orleans with family.
Walking through historic streets, hearing local stories, and discovering restaurants through food inspired one simple thought:
“Galveston deserves this too.”
What started as a small walking food tour quickly grew into one of Galveston’s original culinary experiences — introducing visitors to local restaurants, island history, hidden gems, and the laid-back spirit that makes the Strand unlike anywhere else on the Texas coast.
More host than tour guide
Karen’s tours were never designed to feel scripted, rushed, or touristy.
The goal has always been simple: help people slow down, enjoy the island, meet great people, and discover restaurants they’ll want to come back to later.
Over the years, Taste of the Strand has welcomed thousands of visitors from across Texas and around the country — from first-time island visitors to lifelong Galveston locals.
Every tour combines local food, island history, architecture, storytelling, and the relaxed pace locals call “island time.”
Why the Strand?
The Strand Historic District is the cultural heart of Galveston — filled with Victorian architecture, hidden courtyards, local restaurants, old stories, and generations of island history.
It’s the perfect place to explore on foot, especially with great food involved.
Our tours are designed to help visitors experience more than just restaurants. They experience Galveston itself.
Sharing Galveston with visitors since 2017
