How long have you been in business?
Taste of The Strand Walking Food Tour on Galveston Island in the Historic Strand District was born in 2017.
What is included in my Galveston Island Historic Downtown Food Tour ticketed price?
All food and drinks are included. You are able to make separate purchases for other beverages should you choose to do so. Each tour varies as to its offerings. Come hungry, your tummy will be filled! Gratuities are appreciated and accepted by our guides.
If a Taste of the Strand food Tour is sold out, can I get on a waiting list?
We do not provide a waiting list. If a date and time are sold out, there is always a chance that we will add a tour on that day or check out one of our smaller tours running all day.
Can I get a refund or reschedule my walking food tour tickets?
Once purchased, tickets cannot be refunded or rescheduled because your space is being guaranteed on the tour. Our tours often sell out. No partial credits or rescheduling is allowed for partial attendance, no shows, or late arrivals.
Do I have to purchase food tour tickets in advance? Can I pay cash?
Taste of the Strand, including all other Tour packages, tickets must be purchased 24 hours in advance as tours sell out quickly. To maximize your chances of getting a desired date, time, and the number of tickets, please book well in advance. Tickets can only be purchased with a Visa, AMEX, or MasterCard. Cash is not accepted.
Who takes a Culinary walking Food and Culture tour?
Travelers, Tourist, Foodies, Food Explorers and anyone was wanted to get familiar with their new local soundings and all food lovers who want to enjoy a gastronomic outing including every day people! Our tours are designed for anyone that loves great food and loves to discover the hidden gems in a particular area.
What about the food?
All food tastings are all included in the cost of the tour. Once your foodie tours are over, take some time to go back and shop in one of the specialty foods stops or bars/restaurants.
Private Couples Tour tickets, are we guaranteed to be the only people on your tour with this booking?
Yes, when you book a private couples tour, the booking in that time slot will block out all other parties from participating on your tour, likewise if a tour has already established bookings in a time slot there can not be a private tour booked for the same time.
Do we supply restaurant gratuities?
No not at all, each of our tours ticket price includes gratuities at every stop that wait staff is present this is included with your tour package.
Are there any beverages served on your foodie tours? Will there be adult beverages available?
All of the taste locations water is provided. Other beverages on our standard tour are-available at many stops. Our Adult centered gastronomic tours which has a focus on alcohol and food pairings does include an adult beverage.
Are water stops available on the tour? We supply water at each stop.
Are there any age restrictions?
Taste of the Strand Food Tours are limited to those who are at least 12 years of age. Other than that, if you have two feet and a heartbeat you are in!! Some children have a limited attention span and a 3 1/2 – 4 1/2 hour tour may not be appropriate. Remember that there is some standing and walking so customers with mobility issues will want to take this into consideration for our walking tours. Our other gastronomic tours with a focus on serving or pairing alcohol (Tapas on the Strand | Pub’s & Grubs) are for adults only.
How long is a tour?
Approximately 3 1/2 to 4 hours, some of our tours will run an additional 30-40 minutes. It’s a pleasant and steady walk between locations with enough time for service and food at each stop.
How much walking is involved?
Not more than most people can handle! The pace is usually good for everyone and an average of 1 to 3 miles depending on the tour you choose.
Can I smoke during the Food Tour?
There is opportunity before the tour begins, also on some stops, there are areas outside of the establishments where you can choose to have a quick smoke.
Are restroom stops provided?
Of course! Your tour guide will guide you in the right direction.
How many people do you take on a tour?
16 people per tour is the perfect number, some private or corporate tours can accommodate a larger number, please call for those situations.
What about discount tickets for Senior?
Taste of the Strand does offers discount tickets for Seniors.
What age do your Senior Discounts begin? 65 years old.
What about discount tickets for children?
Taste of the Strand does discount tickets for children aged 8 – 15 with children under 7 free.
What about discount tickets for servicemen or veterans?
Taste of the Strand does offer discount on tickets for Vets, an ID or pic of same past or present is acceptable.
Do you offer discounts for school teachers or first responders?
Absolutely, we offer a discount on their tickets & their family.
How should I dress during a tour? What should I wear?
Please dress casually, comfortably, and appropriately for your current weather situations; If your tour is during happy hour understand that you will be mixing with people who are coming straight from work. “Smart Casual” is always best. Cowboy boots are always welcome…this is TEXAS!
What happens if it rains or snows?
Our Galveston Food Tours are held in rain, snow or sunshine. You should dress appropriately for the day’s weather conditions, wear comfortable shoes and bring an umbrella if necessary. Keep in mind we do not tour during actual hurricanes, gale force winds, flooding, or during major storms.
Is there anything I need to bring?
Just your appetite!! Optional suggestions include bug repellant, umbrella, suntan lotion. Don’t forget comfortable shoes.
How much food is served on the tours?
It depends on the specific tour, our original & main food tour (Taste of the Strand) include multiple tantalizing tasting locations which are in walking distance from each other. Your tummy will be filled…no worries. Our NEW tour “Tapas on the Strand” is both food and drink pairing but half the duration & includes alcohol while our Up & coming “Pub’s & Grubs” is just what it sounds like.
Will I need lunch / supper afterwards?
At the end of the Taste on the Strand food tour, most people are stuffed and a meal afterwards is not necessary. However, if you can pack down the food, there could be the occasional individual who might need a small snack but it’s infrequent from out 3 years experience.
What types of foods are served on your?
You will taste foods that Texas is famous for and some that are just unique to the gulf coast area and that you can’t find anywhere else. For more specific details, click on “Food Tours” from the top menu. Food tasting locations are subject to change without notice.
Is it acceptable to give gratuities to our tour guide?
Gratuities are ALWAYS greatly appreciated for our guides. Your guide is working hard to inform you along your tour and helping you find your way around after your tour is complete as well. Cash is always appreciated and accepted, Thank you.
Can I book a private tour?
Yes. Private Food Tours are available. This allows you to book out the entire tour for yourself and a loved one or you and your private group party up to 22 people. Please contact our staff by email or at +1-409-599-5425
Are tours offered only in English?
Yes, at this time Taste of the Strand Tours are only offered in English. If you don’t speak English very well enough to pay attention and you would still want to participate in the tour, we suggest you prepare your favorite language translation software to your mobile device ahead of time.
Is there parking nearby the tour meeting point?
Yes, paid parking is available around meeting location. meeting location is provided upon confirmation of paid registration.
Are the tours accessible by strollers and wheelchair?
Unfortunately, Taste of the Strand Tours are not allowed to have strollers or wheelchairs on our tours, due to the crowds and tight spaces in the food establishments we visit.
When is the best time to take one of your Galveston Tour packages?
We highly recommend taking a Taste of the Strand Food Tour at the beginning of your visit so you allow plenty of time to revisit your favorite food tasting locations. Since tours usually sell out well in advance, it is best to buy your tickets well in advance of the date you hope to go on a tour. We have tours year round with the couple of exceptions listed on our website… if the date is available, the tour is as well.
Do any provided tours have anything to offer local area residents?
Definitely! Locals often make repeated bookings for Taste of the Strand food tours to enjoy wonderful food and to learn about the great fun facts & unique locations with discovery of new locations under their noses the entire time!
